Chiramel Family traces it roots at Pavukkara, on the banks of river Pamba. Pavukkara is in Mannar panchayat of Chengannur Taluk, Alleppey District, in the state of Kerala. The place Mannar is famous because of the church in the name of St. Gregorios (Parumala Thirumeni). River Pamba originated from the famous pilgrimage Sabarimala, is passing through the heart of the town and the other side of river is Pathanamthitta district.
Ancient day’s family members stayed in Pavukkara on the banks of river Pamba, and mainly focused on agriculture (paddy). The village is part of Upper Kuttanad. Earlier days the family operated several boat services connecting Mannar to the district headquarters, till the government nationalized the route. Now a day’s the family members who are staying in this place are relatively less. Most of them moved and settled in different cities inside the country and some of them are staying outside India for better job or buisness. Family belongs to Othodox Christians and are the members of the Niranam valiyapally founded by St. Thomas in AD 54. |

History of the family Around 200 years back one of our great grand father Koshy, travelled from Kodungallur in Thrissur district and stayed at Vazhapilli near Changanassery in Kottayam District. After several years he moved to the place Pavukkara and settled there.
Kodungallur is famous in the name of St. Thomas who landed in this place in Kerala to spread the Christianity in India.
Koshy had 3 sons and 3 daughters. His elder son stayed at Vazhapalli House in Niranam, and second son stayed at Nedumittathu House in Chennithala. Younger son Cherian initially stayed at Padanilam House in Mannar and later moved to Chiramel House in Pavukkara and the family spread in that place. |
